Know your Rights!

Updated January 31, 2025: Please click here to read APS Superintendent Francisco Durán’s speech to the Arlington County School Board last night.

Top 5 things to know:

  • If you see ICE, call (855) AYU-DAR1 (855) 298-3271.
  • If you have one, present a red card to any law enforcement agent trying to talk to you. See here for Spanish and here for Amharic.
  • Arlington Public Schools, including Drew, do not collect immigration information on students and therefore, cannot share any immigration information about students or their families. See FERPA
  • Complete a fillable, downloadable, and printable Family Preparedness Plan.
  • Make a list of people or places to contact in case you are taken into custody.

Drew’s Policy if Federal Agents Show up at School:

  • Drew does not release confidential student information or allow access to students without the proper legal documentation and authorization
  • This process includes careful review and consultation with APS’s legal department to ensure that all actions align with APS’s commitment to protecting its students’ well-being and privacy.

If you see Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents, please see below:
